THE QUEST – Creativity – Exploration – Collaboration

Join us in a fellowship of enriching collaboration with professional artists that will lead to an original new creative dance performance … THE QUEST.

Building on the successes of the 2017 community engagement project We All Dance in partnership with QPAC, this new project has been developed specifically to continue the legacy of relationships formed within the artistic team. The team now wishes to invite emerging artists with dance, creative movement or theatre backgrounds to participate in THE QUEST series of workshops.

Who is facilitating the workshops?

Anja Ali-Haapala
Anja is a dance practitioner and researcher. She has worked on a diverse range of practices including making, performing, teaching across stage, street theatre and film – and within community, education and professional settings across Brisbane, North Queensland and Great Southern (WA). In 2018, Anja was the lead artist on a regional dance development project for Ravensthorpe Regional Arts Council (WA) where she delivered an eight-week creative and contemporary dance residency with regional communities. Anja also continues to deliver workshops for seniors through the Queensland Ballet. She has a PhD in Creative Industries (2016) and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with Honours (2011) from QUT.

She wishes she could give everyone in the world head massages like hairdressers do.

Tim Brown
Tim is the Arts Manager for Access Arts, a performer and teaching artist. After graduating from the Australian Ballet School, Tim joined the Queensland Ballet. He has choreographed works for Expressions Dance Company, The Australian Ballet (Bodytorque) and Ballet Theatre Queensland.

Tim wishes he had skin in-tune with the sounds of nature so it could change from green to blue to sunset colours!

Nerida Matthaei
Nerida is the Artistic Director of Phluxus2 Dance Collective. In addition to making boundary bashing contemporary dance performance work, she is an experienced teaching artist and performer. She is a much sought after collaborator and works regularly with AHA Collective, Polytoxic Dance Theatre, The Good Room, The Danger Ensemble, The Crack Up Sisters, Queensland Theatre Company and many more amazing artists. She even recently choreographed the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony!

Nerida likes to talk in funny accents when she works and has an unlimited source of energy and (super) power – enough to fly us all to the moon and back!

Sandi Woo
Sandi is an independent dance artist and creative producer with community arts experience that spans over 25 years. She has lived and worked in Perth, Sydney, Broome and Brisbane for, and with, such organisations as Australian Council, WAAPA, Ausdance WA, Ausdance Qld, Marrugeku, Theatre Kimberley, Dance Integrated Australia, Annette Carmichael Projects and Phluxus2 Dance Collective. She is a believer that contemporary dance and community engagement practices are special ‘peas in a pod’ that can give people an avenue for powerful creative and physical expression. Sandi is addicted to dance improvisation.

Sandi wishes she had Jedi-like powers that could make people smile and laugh heartily at random.
