Kim “Busty Beatz” Bowers was awarded the Access Arts Achievement Award 2025, receiving $10,000 to support the development of her new theatre work Confessions of The Brutally Blessed.

Kim “Busty Beatz” Bowers was a Music Director, Composer, Sound Designer, Writer, Poet and Performance Maker who created fearless work for more than 30 years. Of Xhosa, Chinese and Indonesian heritage and based on Yuggera Country in Brisbane, Kim created powerful sonic worlds that sat at the intersection of music, theatre, activism and community

Busty passed away in April 2026. Creative Australia described her as “a significant and influential presence in Australia’s contemporary performance sector”. We honour her artistry and generosity, and hold her family, collaborators and community in our thoughts.
