Tanya said her technique is free and rapid, which is in sync with her sometimes fast mind.

Tanya is a painter and photographer. She is inspired by the Australian landscape, including the colour and sparseness of the outback, rainforests, bushland, flowers, rivers and creeks, beaches, Australian streetscapes, old houses and cityscapes. Tanya has completed portraits of some famous Australians including James Morrison and Deborah Conway. She also loves to express her emotions through her artworks and has a semi-abstract style.

Tanya’s preferred tools are her bare hands, brushes, palette knives, squeegees and sponges. Painting with acrylics and oils on canvas, timber or cardboard is her preferred use of materials. She loves the feel and texture of paint.

Tanya said her technique is free and rapid, which is in sync with her sometimes fast mind. “This technique has developed over my years of painting and experimenting,” Tanya said. “I drip, pour, flick and smear paint onto the canvas, which I thoroughly enjoy doing… I find it energetic and fun!,” she said. “I also find painting to be tiring and reflective when I am tapping into my emotional work.”

Tanya has recently been experimenting with adding more dimensions to her artwork. This includes objects, sound, smell and texture. She is happy to make her art more accessible to all of our senses, and to those experiencing disability.

Tanya has exhibited in three exhibitions curated by Access Arts at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital including Time (2019), Dreams (2020) and Dancing Colours (2022). She has also exhibited in exhibitions curated by Access Arts at KPMG and Brisbane Powerhouse including Celebrating Difference (2019), Journey to the other side (2020), Visitors (2021) and Looking Back, Looking Forward (2022). Other recent highlights include exhibiting as part of IGNITE: 7 at Brindabella Business Park in Canberra, exhibiting as part of Paralym Art World Cup in Tokyo and being selected to paint a mural as part of Brisbane Street Art Festival (2022).
