Ian Ross

About

Ian had a motorbike accident twenty-five years ago and has a severe frontal lobe head injury. He had to learn how to crawl, walk, and talk again, rewiring pathways in his brain. Artistic expression has been a constant companion in Ian’s rehabilitation process through various mediums.

In the past three years Ian has focused mainly on scribble art form. He has a fascination with creating something meaningful and expressive out of ‘mistakes’ such as coffee spills. Ian also incorporates this notion of the accidental through creating art while travelling on public transport, allowing the travel movement to dictate the direction of the mark making. From such happenings he creates a full array of characters and develops a story.

Ian often works with unconventional media such as ash and found objects, giving them new value and meaning.

Earth Footprint (2021) was Ian’s third exhibition at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, showing previously at Time (2019) and Dreams (2020), as well as the KPMG exhibition Journey to the other side (2020).
