James joined the Management Committee in 2013. James graduated in Dance Performance from the Centre for the Performing Arts, Adelaide, in 1988. He has been Co-Artistic Director (with Suzon Fuks) of Igneous, a Brisbane-based multimedia and performance company since its establishment in 1997. With Igneous, he co-choreographed and performed in stage shows, performance-installations, video-dance works and networked/online performances in various festivals and cities around the world, including Nuit Blanche Toronto, BIAM Paris, Theater der Velt Stuttgart, and, with DV8 Physical Theater, the Olympic Cultural Festival in Sydney.
James received a career development grant from Arts Queensland in 2010 to attend “Live.Media+Performance.Lab” in New York, and in 2013 co-presented a research project at the International Symposium of Electronic Art in Sydney. Projects he has been lead artist for have received funding from Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Queensland, Brisbane City Council, and the NSW Ministry for the Arts.
He co-choreographed and performed in the video-dance “Fragmentation” — nominated for a ReelDance Award, and the performance-installation “Mirage” — shortlisted for an Ausdance Australian Dance Award.
