Access Arts utilises an action-based approach to disability awareness training. We have developed a range of programs which enable participants to gain a hands on experience of living with a disability. Our training is delivered by people with disabilities wherever possible because people with a lived experience of disability can go beyond the theoretical and provide “real” insights into their personal experiences (both positive and negative) of access to the arts. Participant feedback suggests that these strategies, and the fact that we use creative activities to increase enjoyment and relevance, provide an authentic and enlightening experience, even for those who have done disability awareness training before.
