Brisbane Outsider Artists Studio Policy

All Access Arts policies relate to all Staff as well as Members.

Access Arts Inc. defines a Member as any person who has filled out a membership form to join the organisation.

Staff are defined as persons engaged in Office, workshop/project or program, Volunteer or Student placement work at Access Arts Inc.

Purpose:

To inform all Staff and Members of what participation in Brisbane Outsider Artists Studio (BOA) entails.

Aims:

  • To support the professional development of visual artists enrolled in the Brisbane Outsider Artists Studio program.
  • To promote Brisbane Outsider Artists Studio as a space for experimentation, skills-sharing, development and professionalism.

Enrolment:

  • Participants must complete an enrolment form and be a current member of Access Arts in order to enroll in the Brisbane Outsider Artist Studio.
  • Members enroll each term for one or two days per week (Monday and / or Tuesday).

Payment:

  • Full BOA fees need to be paid by the first two weeks of each term.
  • If the full term fee cannot be paid within the first two weeks a payment plan must be put in place within this time. Members must see the Visual Arts Coordinator in order to organise an appropriate plan.
  • Payments can be made by cash, cheque or deposit into the Access Arts bank account.
  • Term fees are a flat rate of $100.00 whether members attend one or two days a week.

Professional Development should include:

  • Learning critical assessment
  • Development of skills and techniques
  • Opportunities to participate in training programs, gallery visits and community projects
  • Encouragement to give and receive feedback
  • Learning to value quality tools and keep a tidy studio
  • Involvement in all aspects of documenting work, and cataloguing for exhibition (both online and in a physical gallery space).

Art work:

A maximum of 6 works per artist will be stored at Access Arts Inc in BOA. If more than this number is produced, the artist is responsible for his/her storage.

Collection and relocation of BOA Art Work – Staff Policy

When collecting or delivering art work within the community or to private residences, two Access Arts staff members (or alternatively an Access Arts staff member and a suitable volunteer) are required to be present at all times. This is to ensure ease of handling of artwork, personal safety and assistance with parking and directions.

Collection and relocation of BOA Art Work – Booking Policy

Collection and relocation of all artwork occurs on the third Thursday of each month. If Access Arts members require assistance with relocating their artwork they are to contact the Visual Arts Coordinator one week prior to the required collection date.

Brisbane Outsider Artists Studio areas are smoke free zones.

Brisbane Outsider Artists’ Procedure

Entry:

  • Potential Brisbane Outsider Artists must undergo an interview with the Visual Arts Coordinator.
  • The interview will consider the artist’s goals for attending BOA, the artist’s past work, and participation in visual arts programs and projects.
  • Depending on the interview, an invitation will be offered by the Visual Arts Coordinator to attend BOA

 Enrolment:

The new participant will be given -

 a membership form if they are not already members

  • a BOA enrolment form that must be completed each term and
  • a media release form that must be signed each year and
  • directed to the Access Arts website outlining the organisation’s policies

Fees

The enrolment of $100 applies each term. This will entitle participants to:

  • two days a week in studio between the hours of 10.00am – 3pm
  • unlimited use of paper, pencils, sufficient acrylic or oil paint, brushes and,
  • 3 canvases per term.

This also entitles participants to purchase further equipment through Access Arts Inc. from Eckersley’s Art Supplies at a 20% discount. (Orders can be made by contacting the Visual Arts Coordinator)

Attendance

Attendance sheets are kept by staff for safety records

Artworks

The artist and studio assistant will be responsible for documenting a finished work with:

  • title
  • signature
  • inventory number on rear of work and entered in database
  • photograph taken and entered into database, along with dimensions and price

A maximum of 6 works per artist will be stored at Access Arts Inc. in Brisbane Outsider Artists Studio. The artist is then responsible for any extra work they produce over this number.

For work which the Member and Visual Arts Coordinator deem to be of exhibition quality, a description must be written for use in an audio tour.

Commission

Commission rates are:

  • 90% sales to artist
  • 10% retained by Access Arts towards administrative costs

Sales

  • Initially, sales will be paid to Access Arts Inc. and will then be processed on a Tuesday or a Thursday.
  • The 90% portion of the sale will be paid directly into the artist’s bank account.

Returning work from exhibitions

  • Access Arts reserves the right to assess whether the organisation will cover the cost of packing and return freight of works to artists and organisations on a case by case basis.

Alcohol and Drugs

  • Access Arts’ programs and events are drug and alcohol free. All employees and members are required to be drug and alcohol free whilst engaged in any Access Arts project, program or event, in order to maintain a healthy and safe environment.Failure to follow this policy may result in suspension.
